About this work
This series of lenticular prints by Maree Clarke recalls the artist’s childhood memories of living with her family behind Balranald Mission, situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River in New South Wales. Clarke nostalgically reflects on her experience growing up close to other family members, including her grandparents. Each print references a core memory – an ancient river red gum, a large army tent, an old suitcase – and is illuminated by a constant stream of light emanating from behind. Clarke has explained that in her early years of life: ‘We lived in a tent and my bed was a suitcase.’
