About this work

This ingenious cruet has a reservoir for oil on one side and one for vinegar on the other. It closely resembles a surviving drawing from the correspondence between the English glass seller John Greene and the Venetian glass dealer Alessio Morelli. Executed in Venice for the English market, these vessels attest to the popularity of salads on elite dining tables in the seventeenth century.
