About this work

Tapio Wirkkala’s designs often translate natural forms into pure and elegant contours. The Kantarelli vases, based on the simple form of a chanterelle mushroom, were among the most popular designs introduced by Wirkkala. They were in production from 1946 until 1960 and have since become icons of Finnish glass art of the 1950s. Wirkkala won a Grand Prix award for this design at the 1951 Milan Triennale, the first year that Finland participated following the Second World War.
