About this work

The Anne-Marie of France boutique opened on the ground floor of Paris’s Hôtel Meurice in the late 1940s, selling a variety of women’s accessories. The shop specialised in witty and surreal novelty handbags designed to look like a variety of everyday objects such as champagne buckets, telephones, cocktail bars, hands of playing cards or boxes of Chesterfield cigarettes.
