About this work

Ilan El’s Ora light: interactive eclipse is a contemporary luminaire that emits coloured light. The work is linked to the development of psychological inquiry and growing awareness of how environmental factors, such as light, influence human emotion and behaviour. The automated work moves through the visible light spectrum over a three-minute cycle, creating a halo-like effect of coloured ambient light. The psychological and physiological effect of light spectra – and their potential to evoke positive autonomic responses – remains an enduring topic of research and preoccupation for the designer.
