About this work

The period between the two world wars was a golden age for wrought iron in France. The spare, clean lines of the Art Deco style lent themselves perfectly to decorative ironwork. The period’s pre-eminent ironworker was Edgar-William Brandt, who created grillwork and fixtures for private homes and hotels, as well as for notable public commissions. Brandt also exhibited regularly at the annual Paris Salon, displaying a broad range of non-architectural fixtures such as grilles, radiator covers, lamps, mirrors and console tables.
