About this work

Trent Jansen and Johnny Nargoodah’s Ngumu janka warnti (All made from rubbish), high-back chair was featured in Melbourne Design Week 2020. Made from discarded aluminium mesh, the chair’s slender frame is hand-forged to appear unstable and laminated with brown saddle leather, revealing its geometric structure. This piece emerged from an eighteen-month journey of learning and deep listening, blending Indigenous and non-Indigenous knowledge to showcase design-led creativity, experimentation and craftsmanship.
