About this work

Tokyo-based designer Shiro Kuramata was globally influential during the 1970s–80s. He is celebrated for his experimental works combining traditional Japanese concepts and aesthetics with non-traditional forms and materials. Kuramata’s How high the moon armchair is one of his most successful furniture designs. The chair merges sculpture and design, with sheets of nickel-plated steel mesh impersonating the form of a generously upholstered armchair.
