About this work

Leslie Ragan was an illustrator best known for the posters he designed for railway companies of speeding trains and urban destinations such as New York and Chicago. He used the bold, dynamic shapes and colours of Art Deco to convey the glamour and excitement of new possibilities for travel. This poster was made for New York Central Lines, one of the largest railroad companies operating in the north-east of the United States. It features a dramatic bird’s-eye perspective of New York, with the distinctive Art Deco architecture of the Rockefeller Center looming in the centre and the Hudson River in the background.
