About this work
Confluence is a photographic series made at the meeting point of the Merri Creek and Birrarung (Yarra River) in Victoria, a site of deep cultural significance for Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. The series, created in close consultation with Traditional Custodians, saw the artist repeatedly returning to the site, layering and rephotographing prints that were cut, framed and marked. This method collapses time and perspective, suggesting that understanding Country is a cumulative and ongoing process. Rather than aiming to capture a definitive image, these works instead reflect the complexity, and at times the impossibility, of representing the stories, knowledges and lived experience held within Country.
