About this work

Artist duo and brothers Dinos and Jake Chapman collaborated from 1988 until 2022, when they ceased their partnership. Alongside Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, the pair were part of the Young British Artists group that emerged in London in the 1990s. Untitled (skull panel) is a less sardonic and more subtle work than the black humour the Chapmans are known for. In this panel, many skulls slightly reveal themselves on the surface of the work, which resembles the earth. The brothers’ practice often depicts skulls, referencing early 1990s punk imagery to create caricatures of and shorthand references to death and decay.
