About this work
Alexandre, Thadée and Alfred Natanson were wealthy businessmen who had taken control of La Revue blanche, a small art, literary and music publication founded in Belgium in 1889, and relocated it to Paris in October 1891. The new Paris-focused La Revue blanche was looking for artists who could represent and promote its brand, and the Nabis were in the right place at the right moment in cultural history. Thadée Natanson was drawn to the work of Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard in particular, and over the years came to amass a large collection of works by both artists.
