Founded by Guccio Gucci as a travel and luxury equestrian leather goods retailer, Gucci is today a leading fashion house with a focus on artisanal excellence and innovative design. During the mid 1990s Gucci gained a reputation for bold glamour and sensational runway presentations under the direction of American designer Tom Ford. In 1995 Ford, who was initially employed to oversee Gucci’s ready-to-wear division five years earlier, became the first person outside the Gucci family to hold the position of creative director. This figure-hugging black jersey dress from the turn of the millennium is emblematic of his alluring design approach.
