About this work

The decoration on this plate takes its inspiration from Chinese Kangxi porcelains with bleu soufflé (blown blue) grounds. In such works the pigment for the ground was blown through a gauze-covered tube onto the surface of the ceramic before firing. Reserve panels were masked to keep them white.
