About this work

In 1912 Marion and Walter Burley Griffin were announced as the winners of the international competition to design the new Australian capital city, Canberra. The couple’s work during their time in Australia was prolific, the projects including Café Australia and the Capitol Theatre in Melbourne, Newman College at Melbourne University, several private houses and a major urban development at Castlecrag, Sydney. The refined interiors of many if not all of these projects are thought to have been the work of Marion. This pendant shade was designed as part of a house commission in Heidelberg known as Vaughn Griffin House and completed in 1927.
