About this work
This work and the Chelsea vase and tea bowl are all decorated with the same moulded acanthus leaves and spiral pattern. The acanthus leaf was a common decorative motif that was emblematic of immortality and endurance. Floral motifs were increasingly popular during the eighteenth century as interest in botanical science grew and new species were being brought to Europe from exploration across the continents.
