About this work
The decoration on this plate pays no regard to its moulded form. Unlike the European principle of placing decorative elements centrally, the decorative elements on this plate are taken right to the edges and offset from each other, with the rest of the plate left white. The scrolling clouds on the left reveal influences from Chinese porcelain.
