About this work

Christopher Dresser is one of the most celebrated designers of the nineteenth century. His eclectic approach drew on ancient and diverse cultures, geometric forms and nature for inspiration. He was also prolific, working across numerous media including metalwork, glass, ceramics, furniture, textiles and wallpaper. Dresser designed ceramics not only for the leading English ceramic factories but also for potteries producing less expensive products for a broader market. Dresser’s Propeller vase is highly progressive in form and, combined with its impressionistic glazing, reveals influences of the Art Nouveau style of the late nineteenth century.
