About this work

Roberto Capucci is celebrated for his sculptural dresses featuring bold colours and innovative forms, such as this example. Inspired by art and nature, Capucci opened his first couture salon in 1950 at the age of twenty, and by 1956 had gained critical acclaim as one of Italy’s best designers. After relocating to Paris in 1962, Capucci introduced experimental materials like plastic and stones into his designs. He returned to Rome in 1968, and by 1980 Capucci had decided to present his collections off schedule and only when he was ready.
