About this work

Issey Miyake is known for his technology-driven designs, particularly for his pleated garments. In the 1990s, he revolutionised the use of pleating to create innovative clothes that were lightweight, functional, easy to wear and visually striking. Rhythm Pleats was a key conceptual collection in Miyake’s oeuvre. It explored the relationship between two and three dimensions using flat, geometrical pattern-cutting, narrow linear pleating, colour blocking and irregular placement of openings for the head and arms.
