About this work

The roemer is a rare form within the repertoire of English seventeenth-century glass, and this example is particularly massive in scale. Its form imitates those produced in Germany and the Netherlands, although the elongated conical foot gives it a certain elegant stature that is not typical. The distinctive green tint of the German and Dutch productions has not been attempted by the English glasshouse either.
