About this work
Noel McKenna’s works are characterised
by offbeat depictions of everyday scenes,
often including displaced objects, people
and animals. Wizard of Oz is a largescale
example of intertwined encounters
between humans and animals, set against
pop culture tropes. McKenna works in a
variety of media, including oil, enamel,
watercolour, lithography, etching, ceramic
and metal. This work is an example of
how his spare canvases hint at narratives
beyond the picture plane.
