About this work
Hair adornment accessories used in Japan during the Edo period (1600–1868) and early twentieth century included combs (kushi), pointed hairpins (kanzashi), regular-shaped stick hairpins (kogai) and hair pieces used for weddings (konrei kamikazari). This work was produced by Yonemoto Shoten, a stationery and personal accessories company specialising in hairpins and kimono accessories. Established in about 1900, the company operated a store in the centre of Tokyo’s exclusive shopping district Ginza.
