About this work

During the Edo period (1603–1868) and into the early twentieth century, a variety of finely crafted footwear styles were popular in Japan. This pair of formal low sandals, zori, are for ceremonies and special occasions. Their rare feature is a collage of bird feathers fanning across the surface and straps.
