About this work
Jeanne Lanvin established her eponymous millinery business in 1909. By the 1920s, she was one of the most commercially successful couturières in Paris, having expanded into women’s and childrenswear. Lanvin was known for her youthful designs and use of unique colours, perfected in her own dye factory. A romantic and pragmatic designer, Lanvin’s understanding of the varied needs of a woman’s wardrobe ensured her continued success throughout her lifetime. This work reflects her aptitude for fashionable daywear. After her death, the label remained successful under the creative direction of her daughter Marie-Blanche (1946–58).
