About this work
Richard Estes is one of the most prominent American artists working in the photorealist mode. This work was created at the start of Estes’ involvement with the movement, two years after he began using the camera as a tool and three years after he began committing himself to painting full time. A captivating example of Estes’ ‘front on’ images, the work has a tightly cropped composition and features many reflective surfaces in the lights, blinds and metal counter.
