About this work

Martin Grant began designing in the early 1980s and, at age sixteen, established a small studio on Little Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD. He produced menswear, womenswear and custom-made pieces, regularly presenting at Melbourne’s Fashion Design Council (FDC) shows. Grant relocated to Paris in 1991 and re-established the Martin Grant label in 1992. In 2004, the Federation Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode invited Grant to show on its official schedule. Grant was the artistic director of Barney’s private label from 2005–15 and, in 2014, redesigned uniforms for Qantas airline. Look 25, jacket highlights Grant's reinterpretation of wardrobe classics, showcasing refined details and palettes that champion silhouette and construction. His designs were stocked at Empire boutique, and in 1986 he was named the Cointreau Young Designer of the Year.
