About this work
Andrew Carvolth’s AP chaise draws on the physical and
industrial landscape of South Australia, engaging with the
vernacular not as a style but as a dialogue between place,
process and form. Carvolth repurposes aluminium remnants
from Adelaide’s naval manufacturing sector (materials
discarded during the construction of Australia’s Collinsclass
submarines), sand-casting them into a bespoke frame.
Finished with hand – woven paper cord, the work brings
together metal casting and cord weaving in a considered and
unconventional pairing, transforming industrial remnants into an
object for rest and contemplation.
