About this work

Katherine Hattam works across painting, drawing, collage, printmaking and sculpture. In her work, Hattam explores themes of family, memory and the subconscious. The pinch was inspired by a black-and-white childhood photograph in which Hattam and her siblings gather around their new baby brother while a friend secretly pinches Hattam’s sister’s arm. Reimagining the scene in vivid blues and pinks, Hattam offers a layered meditation on the emotional undercurrents of domestic life.
