About this work
This goblet conforms closely to design drawings found in the Greene-Morelli correspondence and was part of a group of glasses acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria in Venice in 1871. This history suggests that the form of this glass was not restricted to English glass merchant John Greene’s orders from Venice in the 1670s and that similar glasses were fashionable in Venice itself.
