About this work
Anton Gerner’s Tree cabinet comprises half a pair of cabinets crafted from burr elm salvaged from the great storm of 1987, a cyclone that severely damaged parts of England and France and resulted in multiple deaths. The 3 mm burr elm applied to the surface of the cabinet has been taken from a cross section of a tree that Gerner has book-matched to evoke the original form of the tree’s trunk and branches. Composed of twelve drawers, the work demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship and tells a story of resilience and renewal.
