About this work

Trained at the Melbourne School of Woodcraft, Anton Gerner has operated a successful practice from his Hawthorn workshop for thirty years, designing and making one-off pieces of cabinetry and domestic furniture. Vector cabinet: Lines is adorned with a bold geometric pattern on all four of its faces. Constructed from Huon pine, the graphic pattern creates a striking visual contrast against the deep, ebonised fiddleback ash. The work signifies a new direction in Gerner’s trajectory as he integrates digital manufacturing technologies into his traditional joinery practice. The work is one of an edition of three cabinets exhibited in Gerner’s solo exhibition The Storm, the Craft & the Future.
