About this work

Since the early 1990s, Rineke Dijkstra has created an extensive body of photographic and video works presenting a contemporary reimaging of the traditional genre of portraiture. She is renowned for her large-scale portraits of teenagers that reveal the awkward beauty of adolescence. In the early 2020s, Dijkstra revisited her archive, selecting and printing several group portraits that have never previously been exhibited, including this work depicting a group of teenage boys on a beach in the Netherlands.
