About this work
Prior to training in industrial design and architecture in Germany in the 1960s, Frank Bauer was an apprentice gold and silversmith. His work reveals his close philosophical association with the artists and designers of prewar Germany, and the art-meets-industry principles of the Bauhaus school at which his architect father trained. This work features a precise, geometric grid structure that echoes the interlocking frame system Bauer has used extensively in his lighting and furniture designs since 1987. The architectural quality of his jewellery speaks of his commitment to structure and refined craftsmanship across scales.
