About this work

Stig Lindberg was one of Sweden’s most versatile and prolific ceramic designers, known for his bold, clean shapes with bright colourways. His surface decoration combined unexpected motifs and patterns with strong colours, which he applied to a range of quirky, organic forms. Many of Lindberg’s designs display a childlike charm that suggests inspiration from central European folk imagery. His whimsical floral designs also recall the decorative textile patterns of the Viennese designer Josef Frank, whose work for the interior design firm Svenskt Tenn had an enormous influence on Swedish design.
