About this work

Heinrich, Count von Brühl was prime minister at the Saxon court of Augustus III and in 1733 was appointed director of the Meissen manufactory. These two plates are from a service the count ordered in 1742, comprising around 2000 pieces and designed by Johann Friedrich Eberlein. The plates are decorated on their gold-contoured, scalloped borders with a relief pattern consisting of alternating floral sprays, lattices and shell motifs. The wells of the plates are painted with a variety of European fruits, vegetables and flowers from which the service’s popular name Brühl’sche Allerlei (literally Brühl’s assortment) derives.
