About this work

This glass is inscribed with two verses from the Jacobite royal anthem, and bears a royal crown above the cipher JR, meaning Jacobus Rex, or King James. The figure eight beneath the royal cipher refers to the claim by James Francis Edward Stuart, son of James II, to the title James VIII of Scotland.
