About this work

During the 1960s, the New York-based Tamarind Lithography Workshop played a key role in revitalising interest in lithography among contemporary artists, while also training a new generation of skilled printers. At Tamarind, printers honed their craft by adapting to a wide range of artistic styles, while visiting artists benefited from expert technical support. Walasse Ting was one such example. He served as an artist-fellow at Tamarind in 1964, and lithography remained central to his practice thereafter. This work was printed at Hollander’s Workshop in collaboration with Fred Genis and Irwin Hollander – the first master printer trained at Tamarind.
