About this work
The blend of abstracted and figurative elements in these quaint yet evocative drawings by Badjingga Mona Smiler, Coonduru Thompson and Maisie Lissan celebrate the power of memory and Country. The gestural marks in pencil and pastel construct these artists’ Country with a gleaming lightness, as if land formations float in space. Through intimate imaginings of the sky, land, waterways, animals and community in situ, these works illustrate the expansiveness of kinship and knowledge systems.
