About this work

This plate was included in the first volume of A Complete History of England: With the Lives of All the Kings and Queens Thereof; From the Earliest Account of Time, to the Death of His Late Majesty King William III. This lengthily titled illustrated history of England was undertaken by several London booksellers. John Hughes compiled the material for the first two volumes – which included William Camden’s account of Elizabeth I and James I’s respective reigns – while the third volume was written by White Kennett, Bishop of Peterborough.
