About this work
Jeanne Deroin was a prominent advocate for improved working conditions and greater civil and political rights for women. She was one of the founders of the socialist feminist newspaper La Voix des Femmes (The Voice of Women), and in 1849 she became the first woman in France to run for national political office. In this work, Honoré Daumier portrays Deroin’s supporters as bordering on fanaticism in their devotion to her cause.
