About this work

In Forms in space, Danish artist Robert Jacobsen explores visual rhythms of colour and form. Black lines appear to recede while blue lines advance, creating a sense of dynamism and depth despite the absence of tonal modelling. This work is based on a painting by the artist and was adapted as a print by Wilfredo Arcay for the 1954 Young Painters of Today portfolio, which featured sixteen screenprints after paintings by postwar abstract artists. Jacobsen encountered many of the artists included in the portfolio, such as Jean Deyrolle, Jean Dewasne and Victor Vasarely, after he moved to Paris from Copenhagen in the late 1940s.
