About this work
James Stark was a pupil of John Crome and a prominent member of the Norwich Society of Artists that was co-founded by Crome in 1803. The Society met regularly and exhibited their work annualy for over twenty years. One of the great achievements of the Norwich School was to encourage working class people to practice art and explore the countryside around Norwich. This shaped a distinctive regional style indendent of artists working in London.
