Physical description
Hat is plaited black straw, shallow crown with raised rim and wide brim. The brim has two undulations to one side, where the crown and brim have been pinched together and sewn into place. The underside of the crown has a narrow scullcap extension at the back, to secure the hat to the wearers head. The crown is lined with black netting and reinforced with black grosgrain ribbon which has two white handstitched crosses at the centre front.
