Frame
Original, designed by the artist

Frame

The frame is made from a flat piece of timber, mitred at the corners and cross-nailed. The surface has been painted black and then given a textured pattern by carving repeated small scallops into the surface to reveal the timber. The decorative section is finished with a carved line toward the inner edge, provided a thin black line at the sight edge. It is likely these marks have been made with a small gouge on a scale similar to a lino-cutting tool. The frame is thought to have been hand finished by the artist. A painting with a small scale black frame appears on the wall in the background of the painting.
