Physical description
The monumental ewer is decorated in white relief on black jasper with allegories of War and Peace, the ovoid body standing on a socle foot, the handle in the form of a winged female (Victory?) springing from a foliate mask at the shoulder, and with another mask below the spout, below which is a suspended trophy composed of a sword and a garland. War is shown as a winged woman wearing corselet and helmet and holding aloft two snakes. She is accompanied by armed putti, one bearing a palm branch and wreath. Peace is shown as a woman accompanied by putti and symbols of Abundance.
