Physical description
Using the subdued colours of the Australian landscape, Jack depicts a billabong, in which the reeds and tall grasses in the foreground give way to tree trunks in the distance. Partly as a result of the medium used, 'Billabong' also reflects the artist's practice of looking for the abstract shapes beneath his subjects and of using 'a minimum of line to suggest form'.
