About this work
Tiwi Designs is an Aboriginal corporation located at Nguiu on Bathurst Island. It was established in 1969 by young Tiwi designers, Bede Tungutalum and Giovanni Tipungwuti, both of whom progressed to screen printing after developing an interest in woodblock printing. It was the first Aboriginal screen-printing workshop and set the pattern for other such centres specialising in textile production.
