About this work

This vase, in the form of a Persian bottle, is made from layers of transparent amber and red glass that have been cameo-cut to create Islamic-inspired decoration, including arabesque ornament surrounding decorative panels of wheel-engraved peacocks and exotic birds. Thomas Webb & Sons was one of the leading nineteenth-century English glass houses, and was known for its fine decorative wares, in particular its cameo-decorated vases.
