About this work

Dorothy Napangardi Robinson depicts the Digging-Stick Women’s Dreaming associated with the site of Mina Mina. During the Dreaming, ancestral Napangardi and Napanangka women gathered to perform ceremonies and take up kuturu (ceremonial digging sticks) that had emerged from the ground at Mina Mina. A large belt of tall desert oaks (Allocasuarina decaisneana) now stands where these digging sticks emerged from the ground. The ancestral women then travelled east in a single long line, one behind another, crossing the vast expanses of Warlpiri Country, performing rituals of song and dance, creating the environment as it is today.
